Safeway offers no timeline for Spanaway store reopening

Readers have been calling about the former Haggen grocery store at 15805 Pacific Ave. S., which is soon to wear the Safeway brand.

When, they wonder, will it reopen?

The store, closed when the Haggen expansion collapsed, now sits faced with plywood and without signage.

“We do not have a definitive opening date at this point,” said Sara Osborne, Safeway spokeswoman, in an email reply Wednesday.

“There are a lot of factors that determine an official opening date,” she said.

Some of the stores purchased by Albertsons/Safeway already have reopened. Other locations purchased at the same time and designated to become Safeway stores included sites in Everett, Shoreline, Port Orchard, Renton and Gig Harbor.
