UWT Milgard School names Howard Smith as new dean
The University of Washington Tacoma has announced the appointment of Howard L. Smith as the new dean of the Milgard School of Business.
Smith was most recently the founding dean of the Pacific University College of Business in Forest Grove, Ore. Earlier, he was business dean at Boise State University in Idaho.
Smith held similar posts at the University of New Mexico, where he was dean of both the school of management and the school of public administration.
He “led both schools to national and international rankings, including multiple mentions as one of the top 15 business ethics programs in the world for 2003-2004,” according to a UWT release.
He earned his Ph.D. in 1976 from the University of Washington.
“It’s extremely gratifying to me to be able to return to the Pacific Northwest and an exceptional opportunity to serve as the dean of the Milgard School,” Smith stated. “I have the deepest respect for those leaders that preceded me, and I look forward to working with the faculty to continue the Milgard School’s tradition of excellence.”
Smith will have a tenured appointment as a full professor. He will begin his new role July 1.
