The state Employment Security Department has issued a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice announcing that 70 employees will be laid off at the Forever 21 store at Tacoma Mall.
The layoffs, according to the state notice, are due to closure of the store.
Layoffs will begin June 22, the notice stated.
A New York public relations specialist speaking on behalf of Forever 21 replied to an email inquiry Thursday saying the company “is constantly evaluating our portfolio of stores and has proposed one store closure in Tacoma that will be taking place toward the end of July. We made the proposal to close this store after careful consideration of the long-term profitability of the particular location and will be relocating to a 15,000 square-foot facility in the region at the end of 2016.”
A spokeswoman for Tacoma Mall had no comment concerning any future use of the Forever 21 space.
