Average gas prices in the area were at $2.59 a gallon and rising Tuesday, according to tacomagasprices.com.

GasBuddy.com reported earlier this week that the national average has increased 11.1 cents per gallon during the past month and stands 42.7 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.

“The lowest gasoline prices in 11 years are greeting motorists hitting the road this summer," said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy, in Monday’s news release. "Not only gasoline prices, but diesel too. In fact, every single state in the nation is seeing lower gasoline and diesel prices than where we started summer last year — both of which currently average $2.32 per gallon.”

On Tuesday, the lowest price in Tacoma was $2.28 a gallon at the Chevron station at 2501 Pacific Ave., according to tacomagasprices.com. In Olympia, the lowest price Tuesday was $2.39 a gallon at two Arco stations, both on Martin Way East, according to washingtongasprices.com.
