Grocery shopping will become easier in Federal Way, and look for South Hill, Redondo and Port Orchard to follow later this year.

The Fred Meyer store in Federal Way on Wednesday, June 22, will start the company’s first “ClickList” online shopping service in the South Sound.

“You can order online and pick up the next day,” said Fred Meyer spokesman Zach Stratton on Tuesday.

The first three online orders are free, Stratton said. Subsequent orders will have a $4.95 service charge.

The South Hill Fred Meyer store will offer online ordering beginning in late July. The Redondo and Port Orchard stores will add the service in September.

The transition follows a wide rollout of the concept in the Midwest, Stratton said. The service is also available at seven Portland, Oregon, metro-area Fred Meyer stores.

To participate, consumers will visit fredmeyer.com/onlineshopping and make selections from fresh, frozen and grocery items. They will then choose a convenient pickup time. Up to eight dedicated parking spaces will be available for those picking up online orders.

A staging area inside the store will provide refrigerator and freezer space for items that must be kept cold.

Shoppers will be able to choose from more than 40,000 items, according to the grocery chain.
