Spanaway, your long wait is over. The grocery store that went away is about to return.

The Safeway at 15805 Pacific Ave. will reopen next month.

Closed and rebranded when sold to Haggen, then closed again when Haggen collapsed, the popular former Safeway sat empty for months.

“We are very excited about our Safeway grand re-opening on Wednesday, August 3,” Safeway spokeswoman Tairsa Worman said Monday.

“The ribbon cutting will begin at 8:00 a.m.,” that day, she said, and the ceremony will include a check presentation to a local charity and an official welcome by store director Brian Howard, who “will honor returning employees and welcome new employees.”

Customers, Worman said, can look forward to “a new fresh-cut program in our produce department as well as expanded offerings in our newly remodeled Starbucks.”
