Washington state coronavirus cases now more than 1,000 with 52 deaths reported

As officials warned that Washington state’s number of coronavirus cases would grow, the state topped 1,000 in COVID-19 cases now confirmed.

Tuesday’s total, as reported by the state Department of Health, was 1,012, up from 904 on Monday, with 52 deaths, up from 48 on Monday.

State officials had warned residents to expect the numbers of diagnosed cases to grow as more people are tested and more labs come online. More than 14,000 tests have been run in the state, according to the state health department’s update on Tuesday.

Pierce County’s caseload grew by six on Tuesday, for a total of 44, with no deaths. King County reported 569 cases, up from 488, and 43 deaths since the start of the outbreak, and Snohomish County reported 254 cases, up from 200 and two more deaths for a total of six so far. The other deaths were in Grant County (one) and Clark County (two).
