First COVID-19 deaths reported in Gig Harbor area, Key Peninsula
Gig Harbor and the Key Peninsula have each had their first deaths attributed to the COVID-19 virus, according to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department.
A Gig Harbor area woman in her 70s died April 23. A Key Peninsula man in his 80s died April 5 in a Tacoma nursing home. Neither have been publicly identified.
As of Monday, the Gig Harbor area accounted for 50 of the county’s 1,321 confirmed coronavirus cases, and the Key Peninsula had seven, the department said. There have been 49 deaths in the county.
Officials at CHI Franciscan have declined to state the number of COVID-19 patients being treated at St. Anthony hospital.
