Meadow Park Golf Course to reopen soon with COVID-19 safety measures in place

Meadow Park Golf Course in Tacoma will reopen with limited operations starting May 22.

New hours are from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and online reservations and payment are required, Metro Parks Tacoma posted on its website. No drop-in golf will be allowed.

Four-person groups are allowed only if they are from the same household. Otherwise, there can only be two players per tee time.

Flagsticks cannot be removed and cups have been adapted to prevent people from needing to touch them.

Players are asked to maintain social distancing — 6 feet apart from staff and other guests. No more than four people will be allowed in the Pro Shop at a time.

Golf carts will be cleaned and sanitized between uses.

Tee time reservations are available at meadowparkgolf.com starting May 19.

Gov. Jay Inslee announced last month that golf courses could reopen on May 5, as state government eases shutdown restrictions in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meadow Park Golf Course didn’t reopen right away because staff had to make safety preparations at the facility and train workers to re-enter the workplace under new guidelines, said Metro Parks spokesperson Nancy Johnson.

Metro Parks is also facing a $13 million budget deficit due to impacts from COVID-19 and operating with 22 percent of its regular staff.
