Washington reports 409 new COVID-19 cases, 10 deaths Friday

The Washington State Department of Health on Friday reported 409 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 10 deaths.

Pierce County reported 28 new cases and one new death Friday. Pierce County had a total of 84 deaths likely caused by COVID-19 as of Friday.

Statewide totals from the illness caused by the coronavirus are at 27,601 cases and 1,255 deaths, up from 27,192 cases and 1,245 deaths on Thursday.

Washington state has conducted 455,941 coronavirus tests, with 6.1 percent coming back positive. The test numbers reflect only polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, which are given to patients while the virus is presumably still active in the body.

Eighteen people with confirmed COVID-19 cases were admitted to Washington state hospitals on June 11, the most recent date with complete data. March 23 saw 89 admittances, the highest number to date during the pandemic.

The total number of people who have been hospitalized in Washington state with a confirmed case of COVID-19 stood at 4,003 on Friday.

There have been more than 2.2 million confirmed coronavirus cases and 119,099 deaths from the virus in the United States as of Friday, according to Johns Hopkins University. More than 459,000 people have died from the disease worldwide.

King County continues to have the highest numbers in Washington, with 9,061 cases and 600 deaths. Snohomish County has the second highest number of deaths at 162. Yakima County has the second highest number of cases at 5,915.

Washington’s least populous county, Garfield, remains the only one without a case. Six other counties are reporting fewer than 10 cases each.
