Washington COVID-19 cases pass 30,000 mark, deaths reach 1,300 Thursday
The Washington State Department of Health on Thursday reported 498 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and seven deaths.
Pierce County reported 35 new cases and one new death Thursday. Pierce County had a total of 85 deaths likely caused by COVID-19 as of Thursday.
Statewide totals from the illness caused by the coronavirus are at 30,367 cases and 1,300 deaths, up from 29,869 cases and 1,293 deaths on Wednesday.
Washington state has conducted 505,795 coronavirus tests, with 6 percent coming back positive. The test numbers reflect only polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, which are given to patients while the virus is presumably still active in the body.
Twenty-six people with confirmed COVID-19 cases were admitted to Washington state hospitals on June 17, the most recent date with complete data. March 23 saw 89 admittances, the highest number to date during the pandemic.
The total number of people who have been hospitalized in Washington state with a confirmed case of COVID-19 stood at 4,106 on Thursday.
There have been more than 2.4 million confirmed coronavirus cases and 125,796 deaths from the virus in the United States as of Thursday, according to Johns Hopkins University. More than 489,000 people have died from the disease worldwide.
King County continues to have the highest numbers in Washington, with 9,453 cases and 604 deaths. Snohomish County has the second highest number of deaths at 165. Yakima County has the second highest number of cases at 6,490.
Washington’s least populous county, Garfield, remains the only one without a case. Six other counties are reporting fewer than 10 cases each.
