Washington reports 1,087 new COVID-19 cases, 11 deaths Monday

The Washington State Department of Health on Monday reported 1,087 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 11 deaths.

Pierce County reported 60 new cases and no new deaths Monday. Pierce County had a total of 90 deaths likely caused by COVID-19 as of Monday.

Statewide totals from the illness caused by the coronavirus are at 36,985 cases and 1,370 deaths, up from 35,898 cases and 1,359 deaths on Sunday.

The state said data processing issues over the July 4th holiday weekend caused a backlog. The average new case daily total for the past four days has been 711.

Twenty-eight people with confirmed COVID-19 cases were admitted to Washington state hospitals on June 28, the most recent date with complete data. March 23 saw 89 admittances, the highest number to date during the pandemic.

Washington state has conducted 629,256 coronavirus tests, with 5.9 percent coming back positive. The test numbers reflect only polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, which are given to patients while the virus is presumably still active in the body.

King County continues to have the highest numbers in Washington, with 11,105 cases and 622 deaths. Snohomish County has the second highest number of deaths at 176. Yakima County has the second highest number of cases at 7,634.

Washington’s least populous county, Garfield, remains the only one without a case. Five other counties are reporting fewer than 10 cases each.

There have been more than 2.9 million confirmed coronavirus cases and 130,208 deaths from the virus in the United States as of Monday, according to Johns Hopkins University. More than 536,000 people have died from the disease worldwide.
