Pierce County reports 66 new COVID-19 cases, one death on Saturday
Pierce County reported 66 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday and one new death.
The death was a woman in her 90s from Tacoma with underlying health conditions.
County totals are now at 8,097 cases and 177 deaths since the first case in the coronavirus pandemic was recorded March 6.
The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department has reported 715 cases in the past 14 days. The 14-day case rate per 100,000 people is 79.3. The goal for counties in Phase 2 is 25 or fewer per 100,000.
With a six-day data lag required in the state’s Safe Start measurements, the county’s case rate per 100,000 is at 65.2.
Average cases per day over the past 14 days is 51.1.
There are an estimated 1,179 still-active cases in the county, according to the health department.
Six outbreaks were reported the week of Sept. 19-25, up from four the previous week and three the week of Sept. 5. Outbreaks are defined as any site reporting two or more cases.
Additionally, the department reported an increase in the percent of positive tests: 4 percent compared with 2.5 percent the previous week.
“This number reflects an increase in the number of confirmed cases over the past week and a decrease in the number of people getting tested,” the department said Wednesday.
Daily totals for cases and deaths can change as the county receives new information, finds duplicate data or is assigned cases originally attributed to other counties.
Testing is available at various sites in the county. For more information on testing sites, go to www.tpchd.org/covidtest.
