Pierce County reports more than 1,900 COVID-19 cases in three days
Pierce County reported 469 new COVID-19 cases on Friday and three additional deaths.
The latest deaths, all with underlying health conditions, involved:
▪ A Lakewood man in his 60s.
▪ A Tacoma man in his 80s.
▪ A Lakewood woman in her 70s.
The health department has cautioned that case numbers would fluctuate this week because of data migration to a new case management data tracking system, which launched Thursday, along with reporting a continuing backlog of cases.
With Friday’s total, 1,902 new cases have been registered over three days: Wednesday saw 711 new cases, Thursday saw 722.
County totals are now more than 20,087 confirmed cases and 259 deaths since the first case in the coronavirus pandemic was recorded March 6.
The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department has reported 4,502 cases in the past 14 days. The 14-day case rate per 100,000 people is 499.1. Average cases per day over the past 14 days are 321.6.
With a six-day data lag required in the state’s Safe Start measurements, the county’s case rate per 100,000 is 376.5.
There are an estimated 7,727 still-active cases in the county.
