▪ A Tacoma man in his 50s.

The Delta wave has created a backlog in testing results. More than 600 cases were added to Pierce County’s totals on Thursday. About 25 percent of the Thursday tally and about 30 percent of Friday’s case numbers were the result of a lab backlog going back about a month, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department noted in its daily update.
The county’s totals are 79,901 cases and 758 deaths since the first confirmed coronavirus case was reported in March 2020.
Pierce County’s 14-day case rate per 100,000 was 557.5 for Sept. 2-15. The rate of new hospitalizations per 100,000 is at 12.8.
From February to August, 28,695 (85.1 percent) of Pierce County’s cases involved unvaccinated people, according to the state Department of Health in its latest vaccine data report issued Sept. 15.
That compares with 3,218 (9.5 percent) cases involving those vaccinated during the same period, according to state DOH.
More information on testing is available on the health department’s website.
