Pierce County reports 300-plus new COVID-19 cases on Friday. Death toll passes 800

Pierce County reported 351 new COVID-19 cases Friday and three new deaths.

Deaths since Monday include:

A Frederickson man in his 70s.

A Parkland man in his 60s.

A Key Peninsula man in his 70s.

A Frederickson man in his 50s..

A Lake Tapps/Sumner area man in his 70s.

A South Pierce County man in his 30s.

A Spanaway man in his 60s

A Central Pierce County man in his 50s.

A Tacoma man in his 60s.

An East Pierce County woman in her 70s..

A University Place man in his 80s.

A Tacoma man in his 50s.

A Parkland man in his 80s.

Including five deaths reported Monday, the week saw a total of 18 COVID deaths in Pierce County.

The county’s totals are 86,645 cases and 812 deaths since the first confirmed coronavirus case was reported in March 2020.

Pierce County’s 14-day case rate per 100,000 was 536.3 for Sept. 22-Oct. 5. The rate of new hospitalizations per 100,000 is at 12.7.

From February to September, 35,448 (81.5 percent) of Pierce County’s cases involved unvaccinated people, according to the state Department of Health in its latest vaccine data report issued Oct. 13.

That compares with 5,656 (13 percent) of cases involving those vaccinated during the same period, according to state DOH.

VACCINES

In Pierce County, 66.2 percent of the population 12 and older has initiated vaccination, and 60.1 percent is fully vaccinated, according to state Department of Health.

Among those 12 and older statewide, 77.6 percent has initiated vaccination, and 71.4 percent is fully vaccinated.

Walk-up vaccine sites run by the county and most TPCHD events now no longer require an appointment, and all TPCHD events are for first or second doses. Anyone age 12 or older is eligible for the Pfizer vaccine. Those younger than 18 need parent or guardian approval. Locations of individual vaccine sites also can be found on the state’s vaccine finder: vaccinelocator.doh.wa.gov.
