Original post: Demand for COVID-19 tests in Tacoma and Pierce County continues to remain high. On Thursday, Washington state set yet another record for new cases of the coronavirus.

The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department and Pierce County government are operating multiple sites Friday where people can get tested.

One Pierce County site, the Washington State Fair Gold Lot in Puyallup, administered 1,885 coronavirus tests Thursday, Department of Emergency Management spokesperson Mike Halliday said. Between Monday and Wednesday, the site tested a total of 4,632 people.

The Gold Lot is a temporary site, and Friday is the final day it will be open. Halliday said Pierce County is evaluating other locations for testing sites. But on Thursday, another testing site opened at the state fairgrounds that will be open for two months. The health department is partnering with the Washington State Fair and the City of Puyallup to start the new site at the Washington State Fair Bronze Lot.
