Here are the latest COVID-19 numbers confirmed Wednesday in Washington state
The Washington state Department of Health reported 3,185 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday. The state reported 737 new cases on Tuesday, 984 on Monday, 4,592 on Sunday and 3,205 on Saturday.
As of Wednesday, the state’s preliminary death tally was 11,732. That number is up by 117 since Friday. The confirmed death tally as of Feb. 5 was 11,394.
The statewide case total from the illness caused by the coronavirus stood at 1,414,222 cases on Wednesday.
The state frequently revises preliminary data until it’s considered confirmed, sometimes lagging up to a month. It releases new data to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It did not release data Monday due to the Presidents’ Day holiday.
Washington’s population is estimated at about 7.7 million, according to the latest U.S. Census figures.
Hospitalization
During Feb. 10-16, 22 percent of staffed intensive care unit (ICU) beds in Washington were occupied by COVID-19 patients. Out of all staffed ICU beds, 90.6 percent were occupied in the same period. The state no longer releases more recent data.
Acute care hospitals in Washington reported a total of 1,075 COVID-19 patients occupying beds Tuesday with 65 on ventilators.
Case rates
The national case rate for the past seven days was 167 per 100,000, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Data for Washington was not available Wednesday from the CDC.
Vaccine
According to DOH, 66.5 percent of the total state population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
On the national level, 64.8 percent of the population has been fully vaccinated, according to CDC statistics.
U.S. and world numbers
There have been 941,866 deaths from the coronavirus in the U.S. as of Wednesday. More than 78.7 million confirmed coronavirus cases have been reported in the country, according to Johns Hopkins University.
The United States has the highest total number of reported cases and deaths of any nation.
Worldwide, more than 5.91 million people have died from the disease. Global cases exceed 429 million. More than 10.4 billion doses of vaccine have been administered.
Testing
On Sept. 15, DOH stopped updating testing statistics on its website because it was having difficulty processing an increase in data. On Jan. 3, the agency said the halt in updating will continue through February 2022.
