Here are the latest COVID-19 numbers confirmed Monday in Washington state
The Washington state Department of Health reported Monday 51 new COVID-19 deaths since Friday.
As of Monday, the state’s preliminary death tally was 12,076. The confirmed death tally as of Feb. 18 was 11,890.
The state reported 131 new cases Monday, 698 Sunday and 1,423 cases Saturday. Monday’s number was low due to an interruption in data processing on Sunday, DOH said on its website.
“We expect to provide a full update in Wednesday’s dashboard update,” the state said.
The statewide case total from the illness caused by the coronavirus stood at 1,432,231 cases on Monday.
The state revises preliminary data on a daily basis until it’s considered confirmed, sometimes lagging up to a month. It releases new data to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Washington’s population is estimated at about 7.7 million, according to the latest U.S. Census figures.
Hospitalization
During Feb. 22-28, 13.7 percent of staffed intensive care unit (ICU) beds in Washington were occupied by COVID-19 patients. Out of all staffed ICU beds, 89.5 percent were occupied in the same period. The state no longer releases more recent data.
Acute care hospitals in Washington reported a total of 656 COVID-19 patients occupying beds Sunday with 48 on ventilators.
Case rates
For the past seven days, Washington has had a downward trending case rate of 96 per 100,000 people.
The national rate for the same period was 89 per 100,000, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Vaccine
According to DOH, 67 percent of the total state population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
On the national level, 65.1 percent of the population has been fully vaccinated, according to CDC statistics.
U.S. and world numbers
There have been 959,625 deaths from the coronavirus in the U.S. as of Monday. More than 79.3 million confirmed coronavirus cases have been reported in the country, according to Johns Hopkins University. The United States has the highest total number of reported cases and deaths of any nation.
Worldwide, more than 6 million people have died from the disease. Global cases exceed 447 million. More than 10.6 billion doses of vaccine have been administered.
Testing
On Sept. 15, 2021, DOH stopped updating testing statistics on its website because it was having difficulty processing an increase in data. The agency now says the halt in updating will continue through March 2022.
