Here are the latest COVID-19 numbers confirmed Friday in Washington state
The Washington state Department of Health reported 1,138 new COVID-19 cases Friday.
As of Friday, the state’s preliminary death tally was 12,619, up 30 from Wednesday. The confirmed death tally as of March 29 was 12,559.
The statewide case total from the illness caused by the coronavirus stood at 1,471,754 cases on Friday. The state added 756 cases Thursday.
The state frequently revises preliminary data until it’s considered confirmed, sometimes lagging up to a month. It releases new data to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Washington’s population is estimated at about 7.7 million, according to the latest U.S. Census figures.
Hospitalization
During April 2-8, 2.5 percent of staffed intensive care unit (ICU) beds in Washington were occupied by COVID-19 patients. Out of all available staffed ICU beds, 86.4 percent were occupied in the same period. The state no longer releases more recent data.
Acute care hospitals in Washington reported a total of 243 COVID-19 patients occupying beds Thursday with 11 on ventilators.
Case rates
For the past seven days, Washington has had a slightly rising case rate of 98.9 per 100,000 people.
The national case rate for the past seven days was 74.8 per 100,000, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Vaccine
According to DOH, 67.7 percent of the total state population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
On the national level, 65.9 percent of the population has been fully vaccinated, according to CDC statistics.
Worldwide, more than 11.1 billion doses of vaccine have been administered.
U.S. and world numbers
There have been 988,527 deaths from the coronavirus in the United States as of Friday. More than 80.6 million confirmed coronavirus cases have been reported in the country, according to Johns Hopkins University.
Worldwide, more than 6.19 million people have died from the disease. Global cases exceed 503 million.
