A woman with severe burns was airlifted Friday afternoon from University Place to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to West Pierce Fire & Rescue.

The woman was airlifted about 3:30 p.m. from Cirque Park, 7250 Cirque Drive W., West Pierce Assistant Chief Hallie McCurdy said.

The woman was burned after some sort of issue with her oxygen tank, McCurdy said.

The woman was flown by helicopter to Harborview because heavy traffic on Interstate 5 would have made the ambulance ride take up to two hours, McCurdy said.
