A motorcyclist who died Thursday in a five-vehicle crash on state Route 512 has been identified as Michael Seese.

Troopers believe the 39-year-old Puyallup man laid down his bike to avoid the wreckage in the eastbound lanes just before the Steele Street exit in Lakewood.

Sees was pronounced dead on scene.

The collision happened about 4:15 p.m. and was so complicated that it required several State Patrol investigators to sort out what took place.

They believe a semitruck pulling an empty trailer started to change lanes and slammed on the brakes, causing a semi-trailer to hit it.

The semi-trailer then struck a Mazda carrying a woman and her child before hitting a Dodge Ram truck towing a flatbed trailer, Trooper Brooke Bova said.

The Dodge Ram hit another vehicle, which the Mazda was also pushed into.

Seese laid down his motorcycle just before the crash and slid beneath the semi-trailer.

The mother and her 7-year-old son were taken to a hospital after being pulled out of their car. The boy possibly suffered a broken leg.

Eastbound SR 512 was entirely shut down for nearly five hours.
