Longtime KOMO sportscaster Bruce King dies
Bruce King, the longtime sports anchor at KOMO-TV, has died, according to the station.
King, 83, retired in 1999 after 31 years with KOMO.
The University of Oregon graduate broke into television at KEZI-TV in Eugene in 1960, the Seattle Times reported when he retired.
He was at KEZI for five years and then worked briefly at KNTV-TV in San Jose before he became a producer/reporter for KABC-TV in Los Angeles in 1966. He moved to KOMO as sports director from 1968 to 1980.
After a brief stint at New York’s WABC-TV, King returned to KOMO in 1981 and finished out his career there as one of Seattle’s most recognized sports media personalities.
Outpourings of memories and condolences from the journalism community and from longtime viewers were immediate:
I miss the days of the big 3... Bruce KIng, Wayne Cody & Tony Ventrella. All different, but all an iconic piece of the Seattle sports scene. Bruce was bigger than life; Mr. KOMO Sports. Seattle misses your smile. #RIPBruceKing https://t.co/oyozxRa4iw

As a kid, he was the host of my favorite review show during football season called the “Don James Show” on KOMO, dissecting all Husky football plays every recent games. RIP, Bruce King. #PurpleReign https://t.co/Sr2j7gCfux
