Screws and nails found on SR 16 off-ramp in Tacoma. Check your tires!
Thousands of screws and nails covered the westbound state Route 16 off-ramp to Sprague Avenue Tuesday night, leaving troopers scratching their heads.
Someone reported the items just before 9 p.m., stretched across more than 50 yards.
It’s unclear whether they fell from a vehicle or someone placed them there deliberately.
Troopers shut down the area so a state Department of Transportation crew could clean up the off-ramp.
Westbound traffic was diverted around the scene. Eastbound traffic was temporarily reduced to one lane.
It took about 90 minutes to pick up the screws, nails and pieces of glass.
Troopers recommended anyone who took the off-ramp Tuesday night to check their tires.
