Tacoma and Lakewood have a prominent place on Forbes magazine’s annual list of America’s fastest growing cities.

The Northwest boasts three of the top 10 spots, including No. 1 Boise and the second-ranked Seattle-Bellevue-Everett area.

Rounding out the top 10 was an area Forbes described as the “Tacoma-Lakewood-WA Metropolitan Division.”

The South Sound area made the list for a variety of reasons, including a 12.74 percent increase in home prices in 2017 (No. 2 behind Seattle in the rankings). The area also ranked fifth for 2017 Gross Metropolitan Product growth (4.40 percent) and projected home price growth in 2018 (5.96).

Tacoma and Lakewood did not appear on the list last year and ranked just one spot behind last year’s No. 1: Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Florida.

Areas were ranked based on their 2017 growth and 2018 project growth for population, jobs, GMP, wages and home prices.

Vancouver, Washington, was included with Portland and Hillsboro, Oregon, and ranked No. 17 on the list.
