Bicyclist dies following crash with garbage truck in Auburn
A bicyclist died Wednesday after a collision with a garbage truck in Auburn, police said.
A man riding a bike struck a Waste Management truck while it was turning left into an alley, according to a news release from the Auburn Police Department. The man, who was in his 50s, suffered "severe injuries" and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Police said there was no indication the truck driver was impaired or had been driving recklessly.
The crash happened around 9:15 a.m. in the 400 block of 4th Street Southeast.
“Our hearts are heavy with news of this tragic accident,” Jason Rose, Vice President for Waste Management's offices in the Pacific Northwest, told Q13 News in a statement. “We extend our deepest condolences to those affected, and their families. We are working with the Auburn Police and are grateful to the first responders assisting at the scene.”
