Teen, small child seriously injured after hit by car in central Tacoma

A teenager carrying a toddler both sustained serious injuries when they hit by a car while crossing a Tacoma street Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred at 12:46 p.m. when the 16-year-old and 3-year-old were crossing S. 12th Street at S. Puget Sound Ave., heading north from Franklin Park.

A westbound car on S. 12th St. struck the two girls. They were transported to a hospital with serious injuries, said Tacoma Police spokeswoman Loretta Cool.

Possible charges against the 27-year-old male driver of the car are pending while an investigation continues, Cool said.

Intersections are considered unmarked crosswalks and drivers must stop for pedestrians, unless posted otherwise, under Washington state law.
