She jumped from a Tacoma overpass onto the freeway and was hit by a vehicle, troopers say

A woman died early Tuesday after jumping from the Chihuly Bridge of Glass onto Interstate 705 in downtown Tacoma, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The woman has not been identified.

Troopers were called about 11:30 p.m. to southbound I-705 near 21st Street after a vehicle hit the woman’s body.

The driver did not stop. Troopers believe the driver might have been unaware of hitting the body.

Items possibly belonging to the woman were found on the bridge, Trooper Johnna Batiste said .

I-705 was closed for about two hours and reopened about 2 a.m.

The investigation is continuing.
