Train hit, killed man standing on tracks in Puyallup
A freight train struck and killed a man in Puyallup on Wednesday.
Officials said the death appears to be a suicide.
The man was standing on the tracks in the 1400 block of Pioneer Way East about 1:40 p.m. when the train approached.
The conductor hit the train’s horn but the man stepped in front of the train and was hit, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Pioneer Way East at 52nd Street East was closed until 3 p.m.
