Pedestrian hit and killed by Sounder train near Sumner
A pedestrian was killed Tuesday morning after being hit by a Sounder train near Sumner, according to Sound Transit.
The incident occurred about 5:45 a.m. in the 2900 block of East Main Street in Puyallup, just south of the Sumner station.
Northbound Train 1502, which left from Lakewood at 5:01 a.m., was delayed near Sumner “due to an emergency on tracks,” the agency tweeted.
Buses were sent to Puyallup to shuttle passengers to Federal Way, so they could board Sound Transit Express Buses and Metro buses to Seattle.
Trains began moving about 7:20 a.m., but two (trains 1501 and 1503) were canceled from Seattle.
Details about how the person was struck were not immediately available.
The victim was identified as a 54-year-old Puyallup man and his death was ruled a suicide, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.
