Man killed by train in Puyallup has been identified

A 20-year-old man fatally struck by an Amtrak train in Puyallup on Sunday has been identified.

He “was trying to cross the tracks when he was struck by an Amtrak train,” Puyallup police Capt. Ryan Portmann said.

Medical examiners identified the man as Matthew Klaniecki of Puyallup and ruled his death an accident.

Klaniecki was struck about 12:05 p.m. Sunday at North Meridian and 5th Avenue NW.
