Peninsula High student taken to hospital after assault with art tool

A Peninsula High School student was transported to the hospital Friday morning after being assaulted with an art tool by another student, according to the Peninsula School District.

The two male students were in a ceramics class when the injury occurred, district communications director Aimee Gordon said. The type of tool used was unclear.

A school resource officer responded to the school, and an ambulance was called to assess the injured student, who was alert and speaking with medics. He was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital with PHS Principal Joe Potts.

The other student was removed from campus by law enforcement.

A student took a picture after the incident, and it circulated on social media, Gordon said.

Police are now conducting an investigation.

Counselors were on site to support students and staff on Friday, Gordon said in an email to staff.
