Tacoma driver, suspected of DUI, crashes car in Thurston County, injuring passenger

A Tacoma man faces possible DUI and vehicular assault charges after he crashed his car in Thurston County Saturday night, according to the Washington State Patrol.

His passenger, a 44-year-old woman from Rainier, was injured and taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. The driver also was hospitalized.

About 9 p.m. Saturday, the 25-year-old man and his passenger were headed north on state Route 507, approaching the town of Rainier. Troopers say the man attempted to pass another vehicle in the northbound lane. Instead, he drove off the road and hit a tree, according to the State Patrol.

After the crash, the road was partially blocked for more than an hour.
