The City of Shelton has a new mayor following the resignation of Bob Rogers, effective Tuesday.

Rogers cited a recent accident that injured his son and a need to support his family. He had served as mayor since May 2018, according to a city spokesperson.

The city council elected Council member Kevin Dorcy to serve as mayor following Rogers’ resignation.

“As you know, our son was recently involved in an accident while assisting other drivers near Hoquiam,” Mayor Rogers’ resignation letter reads. “In order to fully support my family during his recovery, I am resigning my seat on the Shelton City Council as of January 7, 2020.”

Mary Ricker, Shelton communications and government relations specialist, told The Olympian Rogers’ son was in a car-pedestrian crash late last year and his recovery is ongoing in what she believes to be a Seattle hospital.

The City Council also re-elected Deputy Mayor Deidre Peterson Tuesday, according to a city news release.

Recruitment and an application process have begun to fill former Mayor Rogers’ seat, according to the release.
