Woman who died in Lakewood house fire has been identified
A woman who died last week when her Lakewood house caught fire has been identified.
Uta Barbara Mathis, 80, was overcome by smoke and unable to escape her home in the 7500 block of Dowerdell Lane.
When West Pierce firefighters arrived about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, they found Mathis inside.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mathis died of carbon monoxide poisoning, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Investigators are trying to figure out what started the fire.
