Pedestrian hit, killed by train near Sumner. Major delays for Sounder South commuters

A pedestrian was fatally struck by a train north of Sumner Wednesday morning.

The incident, which took place about 7 a.m., is causing major delays for Sounder South riders, according to Sound Transit.

Officials encouraged commuters to find alternative transportation. Bus alternatives can be found here.

Three buses were sent to the Sumner area to pick up riders on the affected train and taken them to Seattle.

Northbound trains 1504, 1506, 1508, 1510 and 1512, all leaving Lakewood, are being held. Southbound train 1501 is also being held.

“Reports indicate male individual walked in front of train. Does not appear accidental,” the city tweeted.
