Tacoma driver winds up in parking lot after crash on southbound I-5, troopers say

A Tacoma driver and his passenger wound up in a parking lot off southbound I-5 after crashing into a barrier early Sunday, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The two Tacoma men, ages 23 and 26, were injured and taken to St. Joseph Medical Center. Troopers say the driver faces a charge of vehicular assault.

Drugs or alcohol also played a factor in the crash and they were driving too fast, according to the State Patrol.

About 2 a.m. Sunday, the two men were headed south on I-5, just north of 56th Street, when troopers say their vehicle crashed into the freeway barrier. That crash then sent the car across all southbound lanes and into a “business complex parking lot,” according to the State Patrol.
