5-week-old puppy rescued from heater duct in Graham

A curious 5-week old puppy was rescued by firefighters Sunday night after getting stuck in a heater duct.

Graham Fire & Rescue was called to a home in Graham around 8 p.m. after the puppy’s owners couldn’t get him out.

The puppy, which is part of a litter of 10, was behind a dog gate while its owners were cleaning out some rooms in their home, Graham Fire assistant chief Steve Richards said.

The mother of the litter of pups knocked the gate over, allowing the puppy to escape.

The puppy crawled over to an open heat duct floor register and fell down. The owners called the fire department shortly after.

Firefighters extracted the puppy, who had no injuries. He was reunited with his mom and is doing well, according to a Facebook post.

After the rescue, the firefighters played with the puppy a bit.

“I think the puppy was excited to get out, but he was more happy to get back to playing with his brothers and sisters,” Richards said.
