Rescue underway for person, dogs stuck on 30-foot cliff at Point Defiance Park
One person and two dogs became stuck on a 30-foot cliff at Point Defiance Park on Monday, prompting a rescue from Tacoma Fire Department.
Crews responded to a call for help around 3:30 p.m. on Monday to an area 10 minutes north of Owen Beach near Dalco Passage point.
Crews could not reach the group by beach and called in a special operations team. The team arrived at 4:30 p.m., Tacoma Police Department officer Wendy Haddow said.
“The Tech Rescue team is setting up a rope system for a descent, and than plan to secure and lower the three to safety,” Tacoma Fire tweeted.
Tacoma police also called in the Washington State Animal Response Team to rescue the two dogs.
Haddow said the dogs first became stuck on the cliff and the person was trying to get them down. There were no reported injuries.
As of 5:36 p.m., all parties had touched down on the ground safely.
