Lime scooters will return to Tacoma streets in March

Get ready to see some green.

Green scooters, that is.

Lime’s electric scooters will reappear on Tacoma streets on March 5 after a three-month winter hiatus.

Lime sent a notice about the return on Thursday. Liz Kaster, active transportation coordinator with the city of Tacoma, confirmed the relaunch date this week.

Lime’s permit with the city, which expires May 31, allows up to 500 scooters in Tacoma.

The city is currently working on a request for proposals to solicit a company for a permanent micro-mobility program that’s expected to start in June, after Lime’s permit expires.

The city also hopes to roll out a pilot parking program that designates specific spaces for parking scooters along the Ruston Way waterfront sometime this spring. Locations are still being determined.

Between Sept. 21, 2018 and Dec. 18, 2019, Lime scooters had more than 346,000 trips and 86,000 unique riders totaling 431,279 miles, Kaster shared in a presentation at the Infrastructure, Planning and Sustainability Committee on Jan. 15.
