Olympia City Council woman Jessica Bateman is running for state Legislature

Congressman Denny Heck’s decision not to run for re-election has set off an Election 2020 chain reaction.

State Rep. Beth Doglio, an Olympia Democrat who serves the 22nd district, announced Saturday she would run for the 10th Congressional District.

Olympia City Councilwoman Jessica Bateman announced Monday that she will run for Doglio’s seat.

Bateman recently won a second term on the council. She was first elected in 2015. She will run for Doglio’s seat as a Democrat.

In a news release, Bateman touted her leadership on getting Olympia’s Home Fund passed to create more affordable housing options. She said she also has advocated for more state resources for cities to address housing needs.

“We urgently need more housing so people can live in the communities in which they work,” Bateman said in a statement.

The 22nd district includes Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, and northern Thurston County.
