University of Puget Sound in Tacoma latest to turn to virtual classes because of coronavirus
The University of Puget Sound in Tacoma is the latest university to move to remote learning as a precaution against coronavirus.
Starting Monday, classes will be held virtually through Friday (March 13). Spring break for UPS students starts March 16.
The UPS campus will remain open and all activities other than in-person classes will continue as scheduled, including athletic events, music performances, and admission tours.
Students can choose to remain on campus or complete coursework from home or another location. All regular campus services will be available to any students remaining on campus.
Pacific Lutheran University and University of Washington Tacoma are also moving to online classes this week out of an abundance of caution.
There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 on campus at this time, UPS president Isiaah Crawford shared in an update on the university’s website on Saturday.
“That said, we are also aware that there is a high level of uncertainty around the COVID-19 virus, and we need to be vigilant in supporting all members of our campus community during a very challenging time,” Crawford said.
As of Sunday, there were 18 deaths from COVID-19 in Washington state. Pierce County has four cases with presumptive positives for the coronavirus.
