Late season storm bringing rain, wind and cold to Western Washington - and maybe snow?

A late season winter storm is expected to blow through Western Washington this weekend, making the region cold, wet and windy.

Rain is set to return Friday, with the snow level lowering to about 1,000 feet north of Seattle.

There’s a chance of minimal snow in the lowlands, though forecasters warned not to hold your breath.

“... the Puget Sound lowlands will only see a few snowflakes,” University of Washington meteorologist Cliff Mass wrote in his blog.

As much as an inch could fall from Olympia to Portland though.

Mountain areas are expected to be hit the hardest, with up to 3 inches of snow and 21 mph wind gusts in the Olympics.

The Paradise area of Mount Rainier National Park could see up to 7 inches Friday and another 2 to 4 inches Saturday. Temperatures at that elevation won’t get above the teens and winds could gust up to 25 mph.

Temperatures in Tacoma should hover in the mid-40s and the sun could make an appearance as early as Saturday afternoon.

The forecast shows sun through at least Thursday.
