Pierce County District Court suspends all jury trials until May because of coronavirus

Pierce County District Court said Friday that it is suspending jury trials through May 1 in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Criminal and civil trials will be rescheduled later, as will small claim meditations.

Work-crew and day-reporting classes with probation also will be suspended, and the court resource center will be closed.

In-person probation appointments will instead be done by phone.

In-person contested and mitigation civil infraction hearings will be suspended and rescheduled as of March 23.

District Court handles misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors. Felonies are handled in Superior Court.

“Pierce County District Court is taking steps to keep the public and our employees safe during the COVID-19 pandemic,” the court said in a press release. “If sick or experiencing flu-like symptoms such as cough, fever or other respiratory problems, please do not come to the Pierce County District Court’s counter at #239.”

Instead of going to the counter, call 253-798-7487 or use the “Live Chat” function on the court’s website. Anyone with a court date who has symptoms should also contact the court online or by phone.
