Tacoma firefighter tests positive for COVID-19

A Tacoma firefighter has tested positive for COVID-19, city manager Elizabeth Pauli said at a special City Council meeting Friday.

The firefighter last worked at a 24-hour shift this month at Station 7 at 5448 S. Warner Street.

The person has been asked to self-isolate at home through the remainder of the sickness, in addition to a 72-hour period once symptoms have resolved, as per recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Personnel who might have interacted with the firefighter have been asked to self-quarantine at home for the remainder of the 14-day waiting period, Pauli said.

Personnel who are unaffected have been moved to Station 6 on East F Street.

For now, Station 7 is closed to both the public and fire department personnel as equipment and vehicles are professionally cleaned.

The station will reopen as soon as the station, fire engine and equipment are cleaned. Emergency response in the area is being covered by firefighters from nearby stations.
