Pierce Transit to reduce daily service as a result of coronavirus slowdown
Pierce Transit is moving bus routes to limited schedules starting April 6, the agency announced Thursday.
The shift to a modified Sunday schedule is the result of decreased ridership caused by Gov. Jay Inslee’s stay-at-home order, which was issued to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
Pierce Transit has seen ridership drop by 64 percent compared to this time last year, spokesperson Rebecca Japhet said in a press release.
Bus fares have been eliminated for now, and riders are asked to board using the back doors to protect the health of drivers.
Weekends will run on the Sunday schedule. Weekdays will include a few additions to the regular Sunday service.
Weekdays, Routes 1, 3 and 500 will have extended morning and evening trips and additional trips during peak commuter travel times.
Route 400, which does not usually run on Sundays, will have limited service during weekdays.
Routes 13, 63, 102 425, 497 and the JBLM Connector are temporarily discontinued due to very low ridership.
