Some concealed pistol licensing services now available online for Pierce County residents

Pierce County residents who need to renew or replace concealed pistol licenses now can apply online, South Sound 911 announced Monday.

People applying for a new license cannot yet use the online portal just yet, agency spokesperson Mandy Walters said.

A license can be renewed up to 90 days prior its expiration date. Any license expired more than 90 days cannot be renewed , the agency’s website said.

Last year, South Sound 911 processed 18,300 applications for concealed pistol licenses. The front counter has been closed to the public since March 13 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Walters said.

Once Gov. Jay Inslee’s stay-home orders are lifted and South Sound 911’s counter opens, the agency will open online portals for all gun licensing, Walters said. However, applicants still will need to come into the office at 945 Tacoma Ave. S. to be fingerprinted.
