1 dead after motorcyclist crashes into bridge in Pierce County

A motorcyclist died Sunday morning after crashing into a bridge abutment in east Pierce County, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The driver’s name, gender and city of residency were not released.

About 7 a.m., the 55-year-old driver was headed west, approaching Orting, on state Route 162. Troopers say the motorcycle drove off the road in the area and crashed into the bridge.

The driver and the motorcycle were found 100 feet from the road, according to the State Patrol.
