Free rides about to end as Pierce Transit transitions back to normal schedules, fares
Pierce Transit is slowly returning to a normal schedule and bringing fares back, the agency announced Friday.
The Bus Shop Customer Service lobby at the Tacoma Dome Station reopened Monday, but only two customers will be allowed inside at a time.
Starting Sunday, May 24, the agency will add back some bus routes. On weekdays, routes 1, 2, 48, 54, 500 will return to normal schedule. Routes 3, 4, 10, 11, 16, 28, 41, 42, 45, 52, 53, 55, 57, 100, 202, 206, 212, 214, 400, 402, 409, 501 will stay on Saturday schedule with weekday times for the first and last bus. Online ticket vending machines will be back June 1.
Fares will be reinstated for bus and shuttle services on June 14, and passengers will board using the front doors for the first time in months.
The coronavirus pandemic been difficult for the transit agency. Ridership dropped by 66 percent and 90 employees were laid off or furloughed.
