Tacoma man killed after collision with barrier exiting State Route 16

A 23-year-old man died early Saturday morning after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a barrier in Tacoma, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers responded to the crash on State Route 16 near South 19th Street just after 2 a.m. The driver, a Tacoma man, was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in the vehicle and no other vehicles involved.

According to WSP, the driver was attempting to exit westbound SR 16 at South 19th Street, but failed to negotiate the curve to the right. The vehicle crossed the median and collided with the barrier.

It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
